[...] I will never forget the excitement of training for a race. A runner’s high is so fun! Although a bit sore after, to complete a race (any length) was a truly empowering journey. I no longer run (my hips said no more)  but I am always active and on the quest for my runner’s high. I just get it through other sports these days. If you would like to train with the RFR’s be sure to contact them. [...]

I am excited for my Sept 8th 5K! I started running in April 2009 and did my first 5K that July. And 4 more that year. The next year I added a 7 miler and 5 miler. Last year was pretty lazy for me. I didn’t run very much and quit more often than I care to admit. In February this year, I committed myself to not quitting, even if all I was doing was running 10-12 miles a week on my treadmill. Lately I’ve been wanting to do more, go a little farther, go a little faster. I’m a bit apprehensive, but excited. I shaved 9 minutes off my 7 miler time from last year. I really want to challenge myself to more 10K’s and 15K’s, but think this 5K will be fun. And who knows, maybe it will give me the opportunity to PR? :)

What an inspiration you and these red faced runners are! I am so late to the game. I’ve seen a lot of runners on Instagram :) Not sure if my knees can take it, but I think I might just need to give this a try! Will there be a second annual #RFR5k? So much more fun doing it with others!
Happy weekend to you!

Running for me began as part of a challenge with one of my teenage daughters. She had been a stellar runner in high school until she was involved in a serious car accident which left her with a debilitating injury to her foot. Discouragement, frustration, and pain became a daily reminder of what she had lost. One afternoon, as I watched her struggle to run even one lap around a track, we jokingly made a pact to run a 5k together some day. The idea seemed far-fetched — I’d never been much of a runner and she was barely able to walk — but neither of us forgot the challenge. I began to run in spits and starts, and she focused on healing. I stepped up my training and two years ago she was well enough to run with me in my first 5k. It was an awesome experience! Yesterday I finished my 6th race.

Here’s a quick recap of my story:

More of her story is here:

I am going to do the training and do my best. I had a back injury 2 years ago that left me with foot drop; doc didn’t think I could run again. Still have nerve damage, but I’m trying to overcome it. Did my first #RFR5K training this morning. :)

Sarah @ Will Run for Pasta - April 8, 2013 - 12:51 pm

I’m totally in! Hoping to avoid psoas setbacks again by being better about stretching!!

Kate | Food Babbles - April 9, 2013 - 12:16 pm
